Edge of Darkness Movie Review

I had no intention of seeing this movie. I just thought it looked very... unoriginal. But my dad told me that the movie got three stars from most critics and that he was planning on taking me. So I said, OK, lets see this! And boy am I glad I did. This movie however has like I said, a very unoriginal plot. You know, the family member gets killed and the dad uncovers her secret past. C'mon, this movie the offspring of if Eagle Eye and Taken had a baby. That's a major flaw. Second, sometimes when Ray Winestone talks, it's hard to understand him and he's giving out vital information most of the time. And finally, the acting from Mel Gibson is over the top. But besides from those flaws, this film is great.

The movie opens with the death of Emma Craven (Bojana Navakovic) who is the daughter of homicide detective Thomas Craven (Mel Gibson). Emma returns to her hometown in Boston and meets her father at an airport. They then drive home, and in the middle of dinner, blood comes out of Emma's nose and throws up on her plate. Her father then tries to rush her to the hospital but when they walk out the front door, Emma is blown away by a shot gun and dies in Thomas's living room. The movie then shifts to Thomas trying to solve the homicide of his daughter and also recovers consperisies and dark secrets about his daughter's past. The movie is chilling and compelling and has great character development.

The movie also does something very creative. There are clips from a video camera placed throughout the movie that show Thomas and Emma when Emma was maybe around 4,5, or 6 years old. The clips are anywhere from a day at the beach to Emma drawing a picture. The movie has enough chills and suspense to satisfy the viewer throughout most of the film. Some parts in this movie however are slow but when its violent, its a wild ride.

Edge of Darkness- 8.5/10
