The Godfather Part II Review

The Godfather. Some of us know it as the best movie ever. I know that for a fact. The Godfather Part I is one of my favorite movies of all-time. Now tonight I witnessed the second chapter in the unbelievable franchise. Did it meet up to it's expectations? Yes. Why yes it did.

The Godfather Part II opens in 1901 in Sicily. There is a funeral being taken place for the father of Vito Corleone. Vito's brother is shot and mother gets blown away by a shotgun after confronting the man who wants to end Vito's life. Vito escapes to New York and begins his new life there. He is nine years old at the time. The however REAL story is about the rise of the mob head now by Michael Corleone from 1958-1959. Both stories are indeed intriging and fantastically driven by suspense and drama. However, I was more intrigued by the second story of the rise of Vito Corleone played by a fantastic Robert DeNiro. This story explains how Vito rose to power and does it great.

The acting in this movie couldn't be more perfect. Great performances given by Al Pacino, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, John Cazale and Robert DeNiro. Diane Keaton also delivers the best speech I've ever heard in a movie ever. The film went on to win 6 Academy Awards: Best Picture, Art Direction, Director (Francis Ford Coppola), Original Score, Adapted Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor (Robert DeNiro).

Overall, the Godfather Part II is the best sequel ever made and lives up to the original and is one of the best movies I've ever seen along with one of the best movies ever made.

Edge of Darkness Movie Review

I had no intention of seeing this movie. I just thought it looked very... unoriginal. But my dad told me that the movie got three stars from most critics and that he was planning on taking me. So I said, OK, lets see this! And boy am I glad I did. This movie however has like I said, a very unoriginal plot. You know, the family member gets killed and the dad uncovers her secret past. C'mon, this movie the offspring of if Eagle Eye and Taken had a baby. That's a major flaw. Second, sometimes when Ray Winestone talks, it's hard to understand him and he's giving out vital information most of the time. And finally, the acting from Mel Gibson is over the top. But besides from those flaws, this film is great.

The movie opens with the death of Emma Craven (Bojana Navakovic) who is the daughter of homicide detective Thomas Craven (Mel Gibson). Emma returns to her hometown in Boston and meets her father at an airport. They then drive home, and in the middle of dinner, blood comes out of Emma's nose and throws up on her plate. Her father then tries to rush her to the hospital but when they walk out the front door, Emma is blown away by a shot gun and dies in Thomas's living room. The movie then shifts to Thomas trying to solve the homicide of his daughter and also recovers consperisies and dark secrets about his daughter's past. The movie is chilling and compelling and has great character development.

The movie also does something very creative. There are clips from a video camera placed throughout the movie that show Thomas and Emma when Emma was maybe around 4,5, or 6 years old. The clips are anywhere from a day at the beach to Emma drawing a picture. The movie has enough chills and suspense to satisfy the viewer throughout most of the film. Some parts in this movie however are slow but when its violent, its a wild ride.

Edge of Darkness- 8.5/10
